<image:title>Blog - The night I “won” the lottery. - At the time, I had entered my fourth year (of 10) in the family court system. Instead of progress, my situation had worsened. I faced threats of imprisonment and the removal of my children, because the Court and Cafcass decided to use my personal case to provoke and challenge Matt O’Connor, the founder of Fathers4Justice and my new partner, because of his high-profile criticism of the family court system.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - The night I “won” the lottery. - It was a risk, but a calculated one. By going on TV and then speaking to the press about my case, I knowingly broke the law, but at the same time, I was challenging it. I understood that media coverage would spark wider public debate about the secrecy surrounding family courts. From that moment on, I became Campaign Director for Fathers4Justice, a role I held for the next 12 years. During that time, I campaigned for equal treatment of parents following separation and for greater transparency in the court system, so that no party, including the Courts or Cafcass, could operate without public scrutiny and accountability.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - When is the right time to go back to Court?</image:title>
<image:caption>If a breach happens a second time, the response should be firmer. It should be made clear that while you do not wish to return to court, you reserve the right to consider doing so if the breaches continue. If a third breach occurs, that is generally the point at which you should consider making a formal application to the court. If you are simply seeking to enforce the existing order without changing it, you will need to complete a C79 application form. If you are also seeking to vary significant parts of the order, rather than just enforce it, you will need to make a C100 application.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Sir Andrew McFarlane, President of the Family Division, retires. - Several names have been suggested, with Lord Justice Cobb widely regarded, at the time of writing, as the frontrunner, though whether the bookmakers have formalised that status is another matter. In recent days, commentary across social media and legal discussion forums has been predictably polarised. On one side, there has been enthusiastic praise for Sir Andrew’s achievements; on the other, sharp, often uncompromising criticism of his presidency. For my part, I hold no personal animosity towards him. By most accounts, he is widely regarded as personable and approachable.Although I have never appeared before him, I first became aware of his work many years ago, long before his elevation to the High Court, when he was advising Dr Michael Pelling on an early family law challenge involving the European courts.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - The Perils of Using AI Instead of a Professional Family Law Expert - More concerning is that AI does not always accurately interpret procedural rules or practice directions. In some cases, it has fabricated case law or cited legal authorities that simply do not exist. Judges have already issued warnings and, in some instances, imposed costs penalties where AI-generated documents containing false citations were submitted to the court. That is not a risk any parent should be taking. There is, of course, a positive side. AI can be helpful as an editing tool. It can refine language and remove unnecessary repetition. But even if a statement is 100% self/human generated, its legal content must be checked carefully by someone who understands the law, before it is filed with the court.</image:title>

A single comment, a forgotten incident, or a disclosure from the past can trigger expert assessments, additional reports, further statements, lengthy fact-finding hearings, altered welfare recommendations, multiple hearings, and even appeals. Before you know it, you are two or three years in, tens of thousands of pounds poorer, emotionally exhausted, and far from where you began.</image:caption>
